one thing about being an active jdub is that you are never encouraged to actually think.
sure you think your thinking, but once your out, and start asking some questions that you never even considered before, it becomes apparent that you weren't.
it becomes clear that we were indeed "conditioned".. decades of sitting in a chair listening to the same thing, over and over again.
I was raised a JW from an early age. When I left, I read Steven Hassan's book, Combatting Cult Mind Control. It is a must read for any former JW. That really helped me to see what the WT had done to my mind and how to begin to heal it.
He has since written another book, Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves, which I recently finished reading and highly recommend. In my opinion it really helps to look at the JW experience from the perspective of psychology. We have to be able to fully understand what these cults have done to our thinking and reasoning ability, and how they manipulate people. I think when we understand where we've been, we are more easily able to see how to move forward.
i used to post as huxley, now it's huxley2.0.
da'd a few years back, struggled with all the things we struggle with when exiting.. .
life is getting better now, one day at a time!.
Welcome back! This forum has meant a lot to me too. The support here is invaluable.
so it seemed simple enough.
i had heard about this former witness friend of mine ( late 1980's to early 1990's ) having gone through a divorce from his pioneer wife 2 years ago.
long story short- he had been an elder , wife had the jc elders wrapped around her finger - finally the evidence came out she committed adultery and she was dfed.
He then admitted , " Well, Mr. Flipper before I called you I called your witness ex-wife to see if it was alright to talk to you to see if you were DFed or not . If you had been DFed I would have chewed you out for calling me ! "
How sad. You called him because you cared enough to see how he was doing after a difficult time, and this is the response.
He told me , " Your ex-wife said your daughters love you but the reason they won't associate with you is they feel " awkward " associating with you because you don't go to meetings.
What does this "religion" do to people? If I hadn't been one myself for all those years I wouldn't be able to believe it. The WT strips the very humanity from its followers.
i'm new to the forum and couldn't find a place for new members to introduce themselves... so here i am, starting a new topic!(bold!).
i started studying with the jws a few months ago.
we're now on chap.
Welcome to the forum! You have probably figured out by now that this site is made up of people who have, for the most part, rejected the idea that the JW religion is "the truth".
My recomendation to all who are studying with JWs, or considering it, is to learn about cults and how they recruit new members. There is a lot of good info out there on the web and in libraries. A book that I highly recomend is Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control. Most people believe that they could never be recruited into a cult. But it happens every day. People need to understand how those organizations work to protect themselves.
Best wishes to you.
so after the meeting yesterday we went for coffee, nice group.
two baptized more than 40 years, one baptized 20 years, one baptized 11 years, and one study that was invited.. someone had picked up the 6/15 wt so i said, "wow, what do you think about new light?
" they said, "what new light?
I don't see how anyone can criticize you for talking about the latest in WT doctrine. IMO the WT is counting on people not noticing so much. That's why they release potentially awkward info in QFRs, as has been recently discussed here. Or they make one or two small statements in the middle of an article that changes everything, but won't elaborate or explain it further or act like it was any big deal. Many R&F JWs don't have a clear understanding of what the WT teaches anymore, and I believe the WT prefers it that way.
I think it's great when you point it out to your friends. It will make them think. Eventually they will either start to question more or avoid you.
I wonder, Bona Fide, if you might really be on to something here. Your tactics may be the crack in the mind control armor.
i so hope you can see this somehow......oompa.
i did dvr it...so come on over for a grillout.....i have been told i do a mean salmon .
Missed the show tonight. But Mr. Fiorini and I did a cruise to Alaska a few years ago and it was incredible. We saw and heard the glaciers calving off. We saw lots of beautiful wildlife too. It was one of the best vacations we ever had.
we needed one today.
we woke up to flash flooding this am, .
the first two pics are the front yard i had just jumped out of bed, in my nightgown and grabbed the camera.....took some pics, battery went dead....ran in the house, .
Your bathroom flooded? OMG! I hope there's no damage. It's unusual for those not in a flood zone to be flooded. Maybe your town needs to improve its drainage systems.
Take good care of yourselves!
hi -- bonzaison is a friend of mine.
after showing me some of the posts here i felt a bit guilty.
then a few days later i decided i'd get my own account so i could post too.
Welcome to the board. Ya, most of us have had to deal with those issues too. You will find people in all stages of involvement with the WT here. Some are active JWs and their life on this board is a secret. Others are DFd or DAd. Still others are in various stages of "fading" (gradually and quietly leaving while hoping nobody notices). Some haven't been part of the WT for years, but are still trying to come to terms with the experience.
Read for awhile and you will get all kinds of perspectives. Take it slow and you can use our experiences to help you decide what you want to do.
Best wishes to you.
hi all, at the conclusion of my pioneer school we took a group photo with the instructors.
we had to chip in $$ to hire a professional photographer (who was a brother).
it is a custom with all pioneer schools in australia to take a class photo with the instructors (much like gilead photo).. do they do that in any other countries?
We had pictures taken when I was in pioneer school too. Can't remember if we had to pay or whether a professional was involved. I kept the picture because I cared about the people in it.
